We are looking into switching over to and ding some testing in virtual environments. Does anyone know how the licensing cost works for people who are virtualizing server environments? So Windows has a minimum of 16 cores that need to be licensed.

If you have more than 16 cores, all of them need to be licensed. You can buy licenses in different sized packs such as 2 packs, 16 packs and 24 packs, I believe. Just buy enough core licenses to get up to the number of cores that you have in your server or 16, whichever is larger.

There is nothing complicated, which a lot of people imply, and it is all very logical given how CPUs are made today. And it exactly matches the process from where it was 2 CPU minimum, all CPUs had to be licensed so no actual changes to the system of licensing.
